For the first overnight trip in 2017, we visited the beautiful Hokuriku region. On the first day of the trip, we went to the magnificent Eiheiji temple in Fukui Prefecture. Located deep in the mountains, in the lush green surroundings of mid-May, the temple was definitely an unforgettable sight! The next stop in our itinerary was Wajima on the Noto Peninsula (Ishikawa Prefecture), where we stayed in a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan) and enjoyed a fancy dinner with a Gojinjo Daiko drum performance. After visiting Wajima’s morning market on the second day, we headed for Shirakawa Village in Gifu Prefecture, the UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its picturesque gassho (“hands in prayer”) – style houses.
